The New Zealand Institute of Architects has announced a shortlist of 61 projects across 12 categories for the 2025 New Zealand Architecture Awards.

Each year the New Zealand Architecture Awards recognise the top projects from across the motu, with the shortlist and ultimate winners selected from projects that have won a Local Architecture Award in their region during the past three years.
The 61 total projects shortlisted this year include a wide range of projects from major apartment and commercial developments to a replica pātaka kai.
“We were really pleased with the diverse range of projects that made the shortlist this year,” says National Jury Convenor Craig Moller from Moller Architects. “It was especially heartening to see such strength in the Heritage and Small Project Architecture categories. Architects make a big difference in the outcome of any project, but especially for small projects with size and scale constraints, their creativity and impact were on full display.”
All shortlisted projects will be visited by the jury, headed by Craig Moller, Director of Moller Architects, and including Beth Cameron from Makers of Architecture, Nicola Herbst of Herbst Architects, and Ilana Freadman from Freadman White Architects in Melbourne, Australia. The tour begins 11 August.
The winners of the New Zealand Architecture Awards will be announced at the annual award event on 20 November in Ōtautahi Christchurch at Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre.
