Design meets innovation: Audi x Tim Webber

Progressive design often happens where disciplines intersect. To celebrate the launch of its first fully electric wagon, the A6 Avant e-tron, Audi New Zealand invited furniture designer Tim Webber to respond to the vehicle’s sculptural form and refined detail. The result is a bespoke collection — a chair, coffee table, and tray — that translates the Avant’s quiet athleticism into furniture defined by craftsmanship and restraint.

What really strikes me about the A6 Avant e-tron is the balance it strikes between presence and subtlety. It’s a beautifully sculpted vehicle, sleek and athletic, but also understated in the way it carries itself. My aim was to capture that same sense of refinement and intelligence in the pieces I designed for this partnership,” Tim says.

With a striking silhouette, the A6 Avant e-tron introduces a new era of progressive luxury for Audi. Its design achieves best-in-class aerodynamics, delivering greater efficiency and an electric driving range of up to 650km, redefining what is possible for a premium electric vehicle.

“Audi has always been a design-led brand, and this partnership with Tim Webber underscores our commitment to progressive, intelligent design. The A6 Avant e-tron represents a new chapter for Audi in New Zealand, our first fully electric Avant, and Tim’s craftsmanship beautifully complements the vision behind this vehicle,” Audi New Zealand general manager Greg Leet says.

The first of the pieces, the Rehn Lounge Chair, embodies the elegance of motion and precision — a sculptural expression of craftsmanship inspired by the Audi A6 Avant e-tron. It fuses the warmth of natural materials with the refined precision of an engineered form.

Featuring a walnut base, suede leather upholstery, and a polished aluminium back, the Rehn Lounge Chair seamlessly blends tactile comfort with architectural sophistication. Its flowing silhouette captures the gentle ridges and contours of the A6 Avant e-tron’s bodywork, while the name Rehn — meaning “ridge” in German — pays homage to both the chair’s sculpted form and the car’s German heritage.

Rehn represents the meeting point of craftsmanship, innovation, and timeless design — a grounded yet dynamic presence in any space.

The Matter Coffee Table is the second piece in the collection: a statement of balance, precision, and refined craftsmanship — a meeting of design disciplines that bridges automotive innovation and contemporary furniture.

Drawing inspiration from the sculpted form of the Audi A6 Avant e-tron, it is crafted with polished stainless steel plinth legs and a softly contoured marble top. “Matter mirrors the vehicle’s interplay of strength and fluidity. The table’s base echoes the structural poise and engineered finesse of Audi’s design language, while the marble top’s subtle curves reflect the vehicle’s aerodynamic silhouette,” Tim explains.

The Matter Tray completes the collection. “A refined, everyday object, it offers a considered place to rest your essentials — a sculptural catchall that balances function and form,” Tim says.

Crafted from milled aluminium, the tray echoes the design language of the Matter Coffee Table, reinterpreting its plinth-style legs into a compact, sculpted form. Its subtle contours and crisp detailing reflect the same design ethos that inspired the Audi A6 Avant e-tron — a harmony between craftsmanship, innovation, and material honesty.

As part of the collaboration, the first 15 customers to purchase the Audi A6 Avant e-tron in New Zealand will receive a limited edition Matter Tray.

The Audi A6 Avant e-tron is available to test drive and purchase now at Audi dealerships nationwide, starting from $144,990 excluding on road costs. Tim Webber’s bespoke pieces are also available to purchase and will be showcased in his Auckland showroom for a limited time.
