Like pouring the most exquisite hot chocolate, the art of candle making is one of precision and science.

At Jo Malone London, scents are formulated by master perfumers, then carefully infused into candles, diffusers, and room and linen sprays to deliver enchanting results. Each Jo Malone London candle is handmade, lovingly passed down through 16 pairs of skilled artisans’ hands in South Downs, England. They know there are easier ways, but modern technology is sidestepped in favour of a handmade approach to ensure a specific result. 

Firstly, fine fragrance oil is blended into slowly warmed wax to create a blend, then decanted by hand into warmed glasses. Next,  the wicks are setat the heart of the candle to ensure an even burn. The candles are then left to dry for 72 hours, before the wicks are trimmed to a neat 6mm. Lastly, labels are applied to glass holders, which are then polished and buffed. 

These candles are unique – no two burning exactly the same – just like the character of a home: a place of memory and meaning, whether it’s a corner filled with artwork, flowers on a table, or the offbeat charm of a careworn chair.
