Decadent simplicity

French designer Jean-Marie Massaud is on a lifelong quest for synthesis, reduction and lightness. It is a symbiosis between his creations and the natural environment that he strives to reach, and his latest pieces for Poliform are no exception. We explore five of the newest, available in New Zealand from Studio Italia.

Ube Stool

The Ube stool is an element of rupture, a work of art serving the functionality of the living area. Inspired by the seed of the coco de mer, a tropical fruit with an evocative and sensual shape, the stool has a distinctive concave shape, forming a comfortable cradle. Radical also in its realisation, it is made from a block of solid wood.

Nara Tables

Coffee table or stool, pouffe or bedside table, Nara is a versatile piece that stands out for its elegant simplicity. Crafted from solid wood, Nara is available in two sizes. The perfect accompaniment to a sofa or armchair; in the bedroom, it morphs into a sophisticated and exquisite bedside table.

Kaori Armchair

Elegant and sophisticated, the Kaori armchair is made up of two perfectly integrated shells — the outer one in leather, the inner one softly padded and upholstered in either fabric or leather. Its visual appeal is matched by that of the seat, designed for decadent comfort.

Hima Screen

Essential, elegant and sensual, the room divider is a piece with an antique yet extraordinarily contemporary charm, with finishes in painted metal and woven rope. Although it is two-dimensional, it is capable of creating a three-dimensional space, as if it were an architectural element. Different heights lend themselves to different uses, its versatility capable of creating an intimate separate space.

Brera Sofa

Brera is a system of sofas where elegance is expressed through a design of horizontality, which allows for different configurations from the classic linear to curved. A sartorial quality is emphasised by exquisite details in leather, and in a new selection of fabrics, which make the seams stand out, overtly luxurious.
