Entries for HOME’s Design Awards 2017 are now open
HOME’s design awards – sponsored by our friends at Fisher & Paykel – are seeking the best new and innovative designs for the home. The awards cover furniture, lighting, ceramics, tableware and glass: anything beautiful that can be displayed and used in a domestic setting.
Judged by Fisher & Paykel general manager of design Mark Elmore and HOME editor Simon Farrell-Green, the awards are open to both established and new comer designers and artists based in New Zealand and the designs must be intended for sale. The winner will receive a $3000 Fisher & Paykel appliance of their choice, and will be published online and in HOME magazine. Entry details are at the bottom of this post.

Home Design Awards 2016: ‘Volley’ chair by Jamie McLellan for Resident
The ‘Volley’ chair for Resident won HOME’s 2016 Design Awards. Described as “a playful piece” with a curvaceous internal shell made from three pieces of plywood. ‘Volley’ is designed for domestic and residential settings and has two base options – wooden legs or a swivelling upholstered pedestal.

Home Design Awards 2015: ‘Torchon’ pendant light by Cheshire Architects
The winner of HOME’s Design Awards 2015 was the ‘Torchon’ pendant light by Cheshire Architects. Designed by Nat Cheshire and Emily Priest, it was made in a fiery, innovative rush by glass artist Luke Jacomb in an unassuming little shed in west Auckland.
Fisher & Paykel’s design director Mark Elmore described the ‘Torchon’ pendant as “an amazing fusion of design, technology and craft. I think the way they’ve taken a very simple pure spherical shape in glass and inserted that very organic craft-based natural form inside that…is an amazing piece of design.” You can see this amazing process in our short web film above.

Entries are due by 5pm, Monday August 14, 2017.
Our Design Awards 2017, sponsored by Fisher & Paykel, seek the most exciting new furniture and objects for the home. Entrants must submit at least five images (from a variety of angles) of the furniture or objects they have designed with a 250-word statement about the project and its designers. All entries must be received by 5pm on Monday August 14, 2017.
The judging panel will choose the finalists, before viewing the furniture in person in Auckland on Monday August 21, when the winner will be chosen and the works photographed for publication. Furniture must be available on this date. The works of the winner and finalists will be published in our October/November 2017 issue.

Terms and conditions
Entrants are welcome to submit items of furniture or other designs for the home. All objects entered must have been completed or first released in 2015/2016. Instructions of how to enter form part of the terms and conditions of entry. Entry implies acceptance of the terms and conditions. The competition is open to anyone residing in New Zealand or New Zealand designers based abroad, except the employees of Bauer Media Group, their immediate families, dealers and agents. Bauer Media Group reserves the right to photograph, film and otherwise record all entries and judging processes, including designers, manufacturers and any associated parties for promotional and/or publicity purposes. Collaborative projects must be supplied at the time of entry by listing all of the parties involved. It is the responsibility of entrants to seek the consent of those parties. Entries must be received by 5pm, Monday August 14, 2017. The winner and finalists will have their work published online and in the October/November 2017 issue of HOME New Zealand. The judge’s decision is final. No correspondence may be entered into.
