In 1985, Nautilus Estate began its winemaking journey in the fertile soils of Marlborough. Four decades later, the family-owned winery remains boutique in scale yet internationally recognised for crafting wines of elegance, texture and character — each bottle a reflection of the land it comes from.
Guiding the estate for more than 30 years, winemaker Clive Jones has overseen both innovation and refinement. From pioneering Marlborough’s méthode traditionnelle to exploring new varieties such as Albariño and Pinot Gris, Nautilus has steadily honed its craft, matching grape to site and working with local growers who share a deep respect for the land.
“Our focus has been simple yet unwavering,” says Jones. “To craft expressive, textural wines that showcase Marlborough’s unique terroir. Every bottle reflects the balance and harmony of the Nautilus shell, our symbol and inspiration.”
Today, Nautilus is celebrated for its Sauvignon Blanc — soon to release its much-anticipated 2025 vintage — as well as Chardonnay from the Renwick Vineyard and Pinot Noir from Clay Hills. Each wine is shaped by an environmental ethos that prioritises sustainability and a commitment to future generations.
The milestone release, Nautilus Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2025, is described by Jones as a standout vintage. “It displays lifted aromas of lemongrass, blackcurrant buds and grapefruit, with lime zest on the palate and a mouth-watering intensity, all underpinned by textural depth.”
As Nautilus Estate enters its fifth decade, it does so with the same spirit of precision and place with which it began — producing wines that speak not just of Marlborough, but of depth, craft and care.
