Impactful design

The 2024 Readers’ Choice Home of the Year, Sumner House by RTA Studio, is a place of striking proportions and captivating creativity: a powerful response to a challenging set of site constraints.

Wrapped in Abodo Vulcan cladding, the combination of sweeping geometries and the verticality of the timber offer a salute of sorts — to the hills beyond.

The Vulcan timber cladding, using Abodo WB10 weatherboards with a Sioo:x wood coating, takes on the sandy hues of the coastline.

A key philosophy of Abodo is centred around creating products of lifetime beauty to meet today’s increasing needs without disadvantaging future generations. That’s something that is definitely evident in this project, which will no doubt become a lasting and recognisable part of Sumner’s residential legacy.

In an era where sustainability and environmental consciousness are at the forefront of consumer choices, Abodo represents a paradigm shift towards carbon negative timber building materials.

Crafted from sustainably sourced New Zealand radiata pine certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC), Abodo stands as a testament to responsible forestry practices and environmental stewardship.

Abodo’s thermally modified timbers are free from harmful chemicals, making them safe for people and minimising negative impacts on the environment. Each square metre of Vulcan Cladding stores 9.74kg of carbon; it is also Declare certified Red List Free by the Living Futures Institute, the leading label in transparency of ingredients for building products.

Available in a range of profiles and colours, Abodo Vulcan timber allows for an almost infinite range of design possibilities.
