North star

There are few places in the world where you get the sense of land emerging from the ocean — where you can trace the contours of the land down below the waterline — where land and ocean are not binary or separate, but continuous. New Zealand’s Paroa Bay is one of these places — a sheltered inlet enveloped by a perfectly irregular peninsula — with the larger subtropical and iconic Bay of Islands stretching out across the horizon.

Perched above this breathtaking bay is premier luxury accommodation, Paroa Bay Winery and Estate. The property features two villas, two new off-grid vineyard cabins, a sprawling boutique vineyard plus one hat restaurant Sage — ensuring every aspect of a luxurious experience is not only catered to but plentifully provided for.

Tarāpunga Villa

Tarāpunga is the premier villa on The Lindis Group’s Paroa Bay Winery property. Boasting a unique perspective overlooking Paroa Bay itself and the wider Bay of Islands, the villa is aptly named after the local seabirds who frequent the area, with its roof paying homage to the soaring wings of the Tarāpunga.

With complete consideration given to the environment, the villa’s incredible views are an inherent part of the building’s design. Sweeping windows and doors opening onto an expansive entertaining area with a 17-metre heated infinity pool that drops off into the horizon, creating continuity between ocean, sky, and abode. The amenities at Tarāpunga are all-encompassing — tennis and badminton courts, sauna, spa, pétanque area, gourmet kitchen, golf, putting and driving areas, home theatre, private boat charters available directly from the bay, and a deep-water boat mooring — all finished to the highest quality and featuring top-of-the-line equipment, this is the ideal space for both recreation and relaxation.

Surrounded by New Zealand’s striking natural beauty, Tarāpunga villa is a privately indulgent experience of tasteful luxury that must be seen to be believed.

Paroa Bay Off-Grid Cabins

There is an independence and vitality to being off the grid in today’s world that seems more necessary than ever. With this in mind, The Lindis Group has created two new off-grid cabins at Paroa Bay — beautifully designed for privacy and relaxation.

These 30-square-metre lodgings feature a super king bed, wood-burner fireplace, daily housekeeping, private bathroom, and an outdoor bath and patio area. Each cabin also includes all Paroa Bay estate provisions as well as BBQ facilities and cooking basics, however given the onsite restaurant, Sage, is only a short walk from each cabin, the team recommends you leave the cooking to them.

Just a 15 minute drive from Russell township, you’d be amazed how easy it is to forget about the outside world here, you might even ask for the Wi-Fi to be turned off.
