Organic luxury

Over the past three decades, Powersurge has become synonymous with powerful, enriching design. The spaces their work inhabits are sumptuous, and defined by meticulous craft. We look back at the brand’s journey as they celebrate their 30th anniversary.

The Sākuru Side Table, a 2024 addition to the Home Collection, artfully combines aged brass and porcelain.

In 1994 in a garage in Grey Lynn, Todd Stevenson started working with metal. It wasn’t long before his work began appearing in award-winning homes and spaces around New Zealand.

Fast forward a couple of decades, and the Powersurge Home Collection was born following a career-defining visit, by Todd and Powersurge co-founder Andrea Harradine, to Milan’s Salone del Mobile.

“The decision to work with brass actually emerged during that formative trip to Milan. The incredible history of Italian industrial design was all around us, and at the heart of that heritage was brass, a material that exuded beauty and luxury,” Andrea tells us.

“The Home Collection represents a distillation of 30 years of craftsmanship and bespoke design that has seen the Powersurge team work alongside the country’s leading architects and brands. We have had the privilege of creating defining visions with some of New Zealand’s most-beloved names in retail and hospitality. Businesses such as Aesop, BurgerFuel, and Karen Walker.”

That’s not to mention the private residences that their work defines — from statement brass stairs to bespoke wine cellars, shelving, and everything in between.

It’s this extensive experience that became the genesis for the award-winning Home Collection, a series of bold yet distilled pieces that speak to the organic beauty of the material from which they are crafted.

“Brass is a fascinating material; dynamic, robust, and organic.”

A mainstay in the Home Collection, the Colour Fall Coffee Table is archetypically minimalist; a limited-edition brass and hand-blown glass bowl developed in collaboration with Monmouth Glass to celebrate Powersurge's 30th anniversary.

The Home Collection incorporates lighting, furniture, handles and pulls, mirrors and accessories, which now grace many of Australasia’s most exclusive interiors.

“We’re all inspired by beauty in our lives, particularly in our homes — the places where we reside, raise families, and create sanctuaries. Outstanding design enhances our lives in these spaces, and at Powersurge, we’re honoured to be a part of this wonderful experience of designing and creating these spaces.”

In celebration of the 30th anniversary, a new piece was designed in collaboration with Monmouth Glass to pay homage to the 1990s Classico fruit bowl that formed part of the original Powersurge product range.

A one-of-a-kind piece, it marks the beginning of a number of exciting collaborations for the year ahead.
