From a childhood spent watching her grandmother quilt, Olivia Moon’s fascination with textiles began early. Growing up in Wellington, she was drawn to texture and the tactile world, collecting fabrics and curiosities as a young explorer of material beauty. That curiosity set in motion a journey that would span continents and crafts.

After moving to Milan to study textile design, Olivia embraced Europe’s rich design traditions. Yet it was her six‑month immersion in India’s weaving communities that defined her path. There, perched by looms, she learned the rhythms and nuances of hand‑weaving, and discovered the beauty in natural irregularities when it came to creating texture and depth. It was also in Milan that she encountered the Italian word nodi, meaning ‘knots’, a concept that would become the essence of her brand.
Returning to New Zealand, Olivia experimented by designing sample rugs from her new studio. What began as creative exploration quickly became a business. Early custom‑order success marked the birth of Nodi in 2014. From that point, Olivia faced a steep learning curve — shaping a creative practice into a profitable enterprise while retaining the integrity and finesse of the brand’s artisanal roots.
Today, Nodi has a global reach. The latest milestone for this growing brand? The introduction of a range of wool carpet, a thoughtful reimagining of the category, and a response to demand for high‑quality, handcrafted floor coverings. With an expanding team and growing international presence, Olivia remains true to the original ethos: natural fibres, thoughtful design, and human touch.

Quality, craft and ethical sourcing are central to Nodi. Olivia partners with GoodWeave‑certified weavers in India, guaranteeing fair‑trade practices and artisan welfare. Every rug and carpet is hand‑woven on traditional looms, celebrating the imperfect beauty of handmade textiles and producing natural, textured foundations for daily life.
“We design from the ground up, beginning with texture, tone, and the feeling of natural fibres underfoot. Our collections are purposefully curated to showcase the finest craftsmanship and the most compelling tactile forms,” Olivia says.

“For me, home is more than just a space — it’s a nest. It’s where we recharge, find peace, and weave the fabric of our lives. It’s where we gather with loved ones, share stories, play, cook, rest, and reconnect with ourselves. With a curious mind and a deep love for textiles, I founded Nodi to create natural rugs and carpets that form the foundation for life’s simple, intimate moments.”

Olivia Moon’s story and Nodi’s continued success reflect a larger cultural trend: a renewed desire for authenticity, tactility, and ethical connection in design. Woven into every Nodi rug and carpet is a story of global artisans and sumptuous natural materials — grounding homes in warmth, purpose, and enduring beauty.
