Art Deco meets international cuisine

In one of Napier’s well-known Art Deco buildings, Central Fire Station Bistro is the result of a long-held dream of chef Sam Clark and pastry chef Florencia Meneham.

The pair come from diverse culinary backgrounds; Florencia’s foray into the world of culinary arts began in the family kitchen in Argentina where she would create plate after plate of sweet treats. Her career originally brought her to New Zealand where she joined the revered team at Cable Bay Vineyards, and where she met Sam. The decadent brûlée, tarts, and mousses served at Central Fire Station Bistro are testament to her long-standing passion, and she is widely regarded as one of Hawke’s Bay’s finest pastry chefs.

Sam’s story began in his family’s kitchen in Raglan, where he grew up on a farm. His career saw him holding roles at Cable Bay Vineyards and Clooney, where he made his name as an innovator in the culinary arts.

Since 2019, the pair have showcased their extraordinary skills at Central Fire Station Bistro, celebrating the best local produce. “It is our belief that our region’s fertile soil and abundant sea delivers the very best New Zealand has to offer. We work closely with small, independent suppliers to present outstanding seasonal, fresh, and delicious French and Italian-inspired food.”
