The essence of luxury

Near the bottom of the habitable world is the breath-taking and pristine Ahuriri Valley. Carved over millions of years by the once fierce glacial waters of the Ahuriri River, the valley is now a tranquil, yet comfortingly rugged slice of paradise in New Zealand’s South.

The Lindis' main lodge is gently nestled into the land overlooking the Ahuriri Valley.

A place where the quiet of nature becomes amplified and where connecting to the land seems to happen simply by default. Resting  almost imperceptibly on the floor of the valley is The Lindis, our truly unique luxury lodge.

Starting with an elegant wooden slatted roof paying direct homage to the contours of the earth below, the design of the building creates an undeniable sense of harmony between structure and land. A harmony that has diffused itself through everything we do at The Lindis — from the interior design to  the ingredients used in our kitchen — everything draws inspiration from and shows respect to the land  we inhabit.

The interior of the building, in turn, exists in unity with the natural environment. Beautiful Spotted Gum wooden panelling and imposing Bluestone masonry used throughout, reflect the tones and geography of the outside environment — with sweeping floor to ceiling windows blurring the barriers between the inside and outside worlds.

The lodge features two spacious master suites, three luxurious lodge suites, three pods, our Great Hall for dining, a bar, lounge areas, and games & billiards room, all furnished in the same beautiful aesthetic  and designed for the utmost comfort and luxury.

In the same manner, we didn’t look far to furnish our restaurant. Almost all of our top-quality ingredients are either sourced locally or harvested from our onsite garden, meaning the flavours themselves are an expression of the land around us. Featuring unique and distinguished natural ingredients such as locally foraged porcini mushrooms, and wild Fiordland Venison, our menu is a contemporary and refined take on seasonal New Zealand cuisine. Paired nightly by our expert staff  with incomparable and carefully selected local and international wines, the dining experience in the  great hall is a series of unforgettable sensory moments.

This connection to the valley extends beyond the doors of the lodge — and introducing our guests to the wilderness around us is an important part of The Lindis experience. The valley offers myriad ways to explore and partake in nature and our knowledgeable staff are always on hand to coordinate an excursion that suits any individual. With world-class fly fishing in the Ahuriri River, gentle and not-so gentle horse trails and some of clearest night skies in the world for stargazing — to name a few — there truly is an experience for everyone on our doorstep.

Our final complement to the physical experience of the environment and lodge is our unmistakable high country New Zealand hospitality. We believe personal interaction is the cornerstone of visitor  experience and so we pride ourselves on intuitive, dignified, and genuine interactions with our guests.  In the same way the weather influences the flow of water in the river, our guest’s experience is  predicated on our humble, considerate, and professional hospitality.

At The Lindis we use nature as our weathervane — so when we look outside and see the powerful  environment that surrounds us, we take heed. The incredibly high standards set by our unique  surrounds in the Ahuriri Valley, command that every aspect of what we do aligns with the effortless  perfection of the environment. And so that’s what we do.
